Lend A Hand

Sydney Rae Redick is a beautiful 9 year old girl who had a severe reaction to her Hepatitis B vaccination at birth.

Sydney is hearing and vision impaired and has suffered from multiple seizures daily. Doctors place her development at that of a 4 to 9 month old. Sydney attends a special school where she receives P.T., O.T., V.I., and Hearing and Speech Services.

Recently, Sydney started undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatments. Since starting the oxygen treatments, her family has noticed amazing results. Sydney now makes excellent eye contact, her seizures have been greatly reduced, and with some assistance, she is able to take some steps and feed herself. Sydney seems much happier, as well.

Unfortunately, insurance will not cover the oxygen treatments. Her family has exhausted all of their personal and family resources and are now seeking help to continue her hyperbaric oxygen treatments, and to cover other health related expenses. The hyperbaric treatment cycles consist of 40 treatments followed by two months off to observe her progress before beginning another cycle. One treatment cycle of 40 costs $5,600 plus the cost of gas for the 45 minute drive each way.

Geri Caron, a mother and grandmother who adores her family, was diagnosed with primary peritoneal carcinoma on August 2nd 2008.

She is 59 years young and is fighting for her life. Geri's major surgery on February 16th, 2009 was a success, she was released from the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL on February 28th and is now home. During the surgery, they removed her omentum, gallbladder, appendix, and the tumors off of the peritoneal. During the surgery they bathed her abdomen with chemo heated to 106 degrees. The outcome was termed R0, meaning no visible cancer remaining. She will receive a few more rounds of chemo to ensure that any remaining cancer cells are killed.

Despite having full medical insurance, the 'out of pocket' costs are accumulating quickly. If you'd like to help Geri cover her medical expenses and give her one less thing to worry about, please include her name with your gift. Geri's carepage is being updated daily. To follow her progress and/or to send her a peronal note, visit: http://www.carepages.com/carepages/gericaron.

Progress Update: Dr. Brown told Geri to enjoy her life...she is cancer free. No matter how many times her family hears the good news, it never seems to be any less wonderful!

A message from Geri's daughter, April 16, 2010:

Good morning everyone, My mom just called from CTCA to let me know that her results came back and she is all clear. She does not have to go back for another wellness visit until August, we have graduated to 4 months! Once again thank you all, I am still humbled by your love and support and I know that mom is too. Everyone enjoy this beautiful moment, day, week, season......I know we are and will continue. Thank you, Thank you God and Thank you Dr. Charlie
Brown! Blessings~

Brandon Schlick, 25, has been in a coma since a serious car accident in the Orlando, FL area on September 28th, 2008. Although Brandon's life was in Florida, he is now in Michigan to be closer to his parents, brother, and sister. We are currently raising money to help Brandon receive hyperbaric oxygen treatments. We're very happy to report that Brandon is benefitting from the oxygen treatments. He is now tracking light and raising his arms and legs when asked. Our hope is that the treatments will help "break" the coma. Currently, Brandon is receiving five oxygen treatments per week at a cost of almost $800 per treatment. The greatest expense is the critical care ambulance ride to the facility at a cost of $600 each time.

Mark Roby is a physician's assistant, as well as, a naturopath. Mark has one of the world's rarest forms of liver cancer -- epitheloid hemangioendothelioma. Only 125 people in the world have been diagnosed with this disease. Roby is on a mission to help other people survive cancer and other diseases. As a cancer coach, homeopathic doctor and physician's assistant, he recommends people change their diets, lifestyles and attitudes to regain health. He's had a difficult battle and while his cancer is in partial remission and his tumors are shrinking, he's deeply in debt because of medical bills. Although he has insurance coverage, his insurance doesn't pay for the chemotherapy treatments, homeopathic medicines and his monthly trips to New York for treatment. In 2009 Mark's Drs' reported that his tumors are continuing to shrink. Progress Update: Mark had a successful liver transplant at the Cleveland Clinic in January 2010. He is doing very well and is serving others with cancer. Check out his website: www.cancercoachdrmark.com

Jean Cavalier is a well-known artist in southeastern Michigan and the Ft. Myers, Florida area. She discovered her gift as an artist later in life while taking a watercolor painting class. Jean was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in August, 2008. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy in Ft. Myers, FL. Even though Jean has medical insurance coverage, the 'out of pocket' expenses are expected to reach in the thousands. We are praying that Jean receives good news this week following her recent P.E.T. scan. Her artwork is available under the 'shopping' tab of our site and a portion of the proceeds is donated to LAHH. When Jean had her second P.E.T. scan she was told the tumors are not increasing, in fact some of them have decreased. The spots on her lungs and in her bones are gone. We were all excited to hear the news. Progress Update: (Apr 13, '10) Jean has been on a five month hiatus from chemotherapy and has been as busy as ever golfing, playing bridge, and painting her artwork.
